Click Club is proud to present a unique photographic field workshop led by Francis A. Willey, an interdisciplinary visual artist, poet, and award winning photographer with over three decades of experience in visual storytelling and fine art photography. Known for his evocative use of natural light and painterly compositions, Willey’s work has been exhibited internationally and published in publications such as Vogue Italia, and Art on Paper, PhotoEd.
His practice integrates literary, cinematic, and emotional elements to explore themes of memory, beauty, and the human condition.
In this immersive walking workshop, participants will engage with the visual and emotional language of photography in one of Calgary’s most historically rich neighbourhoods. Through guided observation, one-on-one mentorship, and reflective exercises, Willey will encourage participants to consider not just what they see—but how they see.
Workshop Objectives:
Explore the aesthetic potential of available light and shadow in urban environments
Learn to read a scene for emotional and compositional resonance
Understand the relationship between subjective experience and visual narrative
Receive personalized feedback to help articulate your individual photographic voice
Practice slow, intentional image-making with attention to form, feeling, and presence
This workshop is designed to be both educational and experiential, offering photographers at all levels a chance to deepen their creative practice outside of technical constraints. Participants will be encouraged to use whatever camera they are most comfortable with (including smartphone cameras), focusing instead on the development of perceptual skills and conceptual depth.
We will conclude the session at The Collectors Gallery of Art, where participants will attend a curated exhibition and engage in an open discussion with the curator and the artist Francis A Willey about contemporary photographic practice, curatorial perspectives, and the evolving role of photography in visual culture.
